I’m always game for a good read-a-thon. And, summer is a great time to have one!
Michelle at Seasons of Reading is hosting the event and it goes from July 16-22. You can get all the details on this POST on her blog. Join! The more, the merrier. It’s fun and a great way to make a healthy dent in your TBR pile.
I will be using this post for all my updates, so check back to see my progress and to share your own progress, as well!
UPDATE #1 – Because I didn’t get as much reading done this weekend as I wanted, I will be finishing The Unnaturalists by Tiffany Trent before moving on to the books I chose for my read-a-thon. What are YOU reading?
UPDATE #2 – Yay! Finished The Unnaturalists and am on page 1 of a brand new book. On the back page of The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker it says “On a seemingly ordinary Saturday in a California suburb, Julia and her family awake to discover, along with the rest of the world, that the rotation of the earth has suddenly begun to slow. The days and nights grow longer and longer, gravity is affected, the environment is thrown into disarray….” Sounds interesting, right?
UPDATE #3 – The Age of Miracles is seriously good. Such an interesting story and seriously, it sometimes freaks me out and gives me a ‘what if’ feeling. I can’t tell you how many times in the first 100 pages I wanted to go grocery shopping for emergency supplies! Definitely shaping up to be one of the best books I’ve read so far this year.
Update #4 – I finished The Age of Miracles last night. It made me cry. I’ll probably post my review on it next week sometime (I’m about 4 reviews behind right now.. whoops!) Next up is Dance, Gladys, Dance by Cassie Stocks. I wish I had more time to read today but stuff keeps popping up. I’ll have 45 minutes while I wait for my daughter’s tae kwon do class and I’m sooo looking forward to reading it again.
Update #5 – Well, I certainly didn’t get as much reading done the last couple of days as I wanted to. Cherry picking and sales, my daughters and life just caught up with me, I guess. Silly, pesky life always getting in the way of my reading!! :p I’d love to hear how everyone else did.
Up next for me is the Random House of Canada’s Olympic Readathon. I’ve decided to try to read 1500 pages during the Olympics this summer. It can be done. I’m not as invested in summer sports as I am in winter ones (I’m Canadian, eh)
My task for today? Reviews. I’m soooo behind!!

I’m in the same boat. I hoped to have The Black Isle by Sandi Tan finished by the start of the read-a-thon but I still have 200 pgs to go. Good luck w/your reading!
Welcome, Martina! Hope you get some great reading in this week. I did not do any reading so far today because I was working and then I worked on the prize/giveaway page forever! I’ll get some in tonight though. Happy reading!
The Giveaway/prize page is posted over at the blog, if you’d like to check it out.
Oooh, I’m dying to read THE AGE OF MIRACLES. It’s been duly added to my library list, so I’ll be eagerly awaiting your thoughts on that one! Good luck… and happy reading, of course!
Ohh, the book is so great! I could hardly stand to put it down to sleep last night!
Oh maaaan! Between your update and a review I read about ten minutes later, I just had to order a copy… DAMN YOU AMAZON PRIME ONE-CLICK ORDERING, YOU MAKE IT TOO EASY!
One for later in the week, maybe?
Hahaha. That made me laugh
Online shopping makes it wayyy to easy for us to buy books. They knew what they were doing.. haha
It arrived this morning… it is now OFFICIALLY on Mount TBR. I hope you’re very pleased with yourself.
I’m very pleased!! lol I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
And I love the name “Mount TBR”. I might have to borrow that one
Wow, I’ll have to get The Age of Miracles! Happy reading!
Congrats on getting to the end in one piece – I’ve not read much these last couple of days either (or all week, really!) but I’ve been using my books as a bit of an escape at work (screaming kids, grrr) and trying to squeeze in a bit around the edges too, so I’m quite happy! I’m off to check out the Olympics read-a-thon; I don’t exactly need to join any more this summer (*peers at read-a-thon packed diary*), but if it can give me the focus to get through the holidays at the shop without killing anybody, that’s fine by me!
